What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium screws designed to replace missing teeth entirely. Placed into the jawbone during a straightforward surgical procedure, they act as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for restorations like dental crowns. These crowns are crafted to closely resemble the appearance and function of natural teeth. Choosing dental implants is an important decision. If you’re unsure about the process, we offer detailed guidance to help you make a confident and informed choice about your dental care.

Had a great experience getting a cleaning here. The clinic is very high tech, I was impressed with all the stuff they are using. The hygienist was very thorough and sensitive, and the dentist Alina is very professional and knowledgeable. The front desk lady Chantel was also very accommodating with my insurance inquiries. Overall, great experience. Will certainly return and recommend to friends and family.

Here's a review you could use: --- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic experience at this dental office. Dr. Allina was extremely friendly and patient with my 4-year-old son. She explained every detail and every option to us and even took the time to play with him and check his paw patrol doggy for cavities, which he loved. After his procedure, he got to open the treasure box and pick a toy, which was a great touch. The dental offices are newly built and extremely clean. The staff was super friendly as well. Overall, I’d give this place 10 stars if I could! Highly recommend.

Why Dental Implants Might Be Necessary

Natural teeth are essential for maintaining the structure of your smile, supporting comfortable eating, and enabling clear speech. Losing a tooth disrupts this balance, often leading to shifting of adjacent teeth, misalignment, and increased risks of oral health issues.

Beyond alignment concerns, missing teeth can trigger bone resorption—a natural process where the jawbone deteriorates without the pressure provided by teeth. This loss of bone density can lead to a sunken facial appearance, wrinkles, and changes to the jawline.

Dental implants provide a solution that closely mimics natural teeth. They stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss and preserving facial structure while restoring your ability to eat, speak, and smile confidently.

The Benefits Of Dental Implants

Tooth loss can impact your confidence and oral health. Missing teeth not only affect your smile but can disrupt your bite, make eating difficult, and lead to bone loss or tooth shifting. Dental implants address these issues, offering a comprehensive and lasting solution.

  • Restore Your Natural Appearance: Dental implants mimic natural teeth in look and feel. Custom-designed to match the shape, size, and colour of your teeth, they blend seamlessly into your smile, restoring its natural beauty.
  • Enjoy Lasting Comfort and Confidence: Implants fuse securely with your jawbone, creating a stable foundation for crowns, bridges, or dentures. This means no shifting or discomfort—just the freedom to laugh, eat, and smile confidently.
  • Strengthen Your Bone Health: Implants stimulate bone growth, countering the bone loss that occurs with missing teeth. They help maintain jawbone structure, supporting your overall facial appearance.

With proper care, dental implants provide a durable, natural-feeling solution that can last for decades, restoring both function and confidence in your smile.

Dental Implant Restorations

Dental implant restorations are the visible artificial teeth that complete the implant, providing a natural appearance. While the implant itself stays hidden beneath the gums, the restoration is what creates the look and function of a real tooth.

  • Dental Crown: Ideal for single-tooth replacements, a dental crown is custom-made to match your natural teeth, restoring both appearance and function seamlessly.
  • Dental Bridge: For multiple missing teeth in a row, a bridge can span the gap using one or two implants for support. Complete implant-supported bridges use four or more implants to permanently replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth.
  • Implant Denture: To enhance the stability of removable dentures, small implants can be used as anchors, providing a secure and comfortable fit.

Each restoration option is tailored to your needs, ensuring a natural look, optimal function, and long-lasting results.

The Experience of Dental Implants

Despite initial concerns about discomfort, getting a dental implant is a surprisingly smooth and comfortable process.

During the procedure, your mouth is numbed with a gentle anaesthetic, ensuring you feel no pain. Using advanced dental technology, implants are placed quickly and precisely, minimizing invasiveness and speeding up recovery. Many patients find the half-hour procedure so uneventful they feel bored or even sleepy—the most challenging part is keeping your mouth open for short intervals!

After the surgery, mild swelling, discomfort, or bruising is common but easily managed with simple care instructions. Most patients find the surgical site begins to feel better within a week.

With a success rate of nearly 95%, dental implants are one of the safest and most reliable treatments in modern dentistry, offering you peace of mind and a restored smile.

What To Expect on Your Dental Implant Treatment Journey

The dental implant process is more comfortable and straightforward than many anticipate. Here’s what you can expect:

Assessment

Your journey begins with a thorough consultation. Using X-rays and a 3D cone-beam CT scan, your dentist will evaluate your jawbone density and plan the ideal implant placement. A scan or impression of your teeth will also be taken to ensure precise placement and restoration design.

Implant Placement

On the day of surgery, a local anaesthetic is used to numb the area completely. Your dentist will create a small opening in the gums and jawbone, then carefully place the implant post into position. Depending on the situation, sutures may be used to close the gums.

Final Restoration

After a few months of healing at home, during which the implant integrates with your jawbone, you’ll return for the final step. Your custom restoration—whether a crown, bridge, or denture—will be securely attached to the implant, leaving you with a fully functional and natural-looking new tooth. With your treatment complete, you’ll enjoy a restored smile that feels and functions just like your natural teeth!

Cost Of Dental Implants In South Aurora

The cost of dental implants varies widely based on individual needs. For a single implant, you can expect to pay between $3,000 and $6,000 or more. Full-mouth reconstruction with implants may range from $6,000 to over $60,000, with the average cost for a full set of implant-supported dentures around $30,000.

Accurate quotes require an in-person consultation, as the cost depends on factors like:

  • The type and number of implants needed.
  • Materials and supplies used during the procedure.
  • The expertise of your dental team.
  • The complexity and geographical location of the surgery.
  • Post-surgery recovery and support.

A thorough oral examination allows your dentist to tailor treatment options and provide a more precise cost estimate.

Alternatives to Dental Implants

If you’re missing 1–3 teeth, a dental bridge may be a suitable option. For more extensive tooth loss, removable dentures or other prosthetics might be recommended. While these alternatives can be more affordable upfront, they have distinct disadvantages compared to implants.

Why Choose Implants?

Dental implants offer unparalleled stability and durability, functioning like natural teeth. Unlike removable dentures or bridges, implants require no special maintenance and can last a lifetime with proper oral care. While the initial investment may be higher, their long-term benefits—including superior security, comfort, and aesthetics—make them a worthwhile solution for many.

Consult with your dentist to explore your options and find the best fit for your needs and budget.
